Welcome to 5RiversOnline

Our mission is to provide an academically and socially rich online school experience, in which to develop independent, deep learners that are supported and encouraged to become the best possible version of themselves.

Our vision is . . .

  • To engage, inspire, and empower each learner to tap into their potential through their own metacognition, being aware of their own learning and responding to their own learning wants and needs.

  • Involve the learners with goal setting and monitoring their own progress in order to ensure an options-rich future.

  • Provide challenging, flexible curriculum with the support and encouragement of responsive staff members.

Meet the Principal

Kim Cory

Kim Cory has been the principal of 5RiversOnline school since its inception. She holds both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in education while also being a fully licensed principal and superintendent in the state of Minnesota.

Kim taught in the classroom for 18 years before moving to district leadership roles of PBIS coach and Dean of Students for two years previous to her becoming the principal of 5RiversOnline.

Her educational opportunities have afforded her an opportunity to collaborate with a diverse group of people to meet the common goal of increasing student achievement while focusing on each learner’s well-being through social & emotional supports.  Her educational philosophy is quite simple: Love Hard, Lean In, and Expect Much.  She has been greatly influenced by the teachings of Linda Clatt-Wayman, Dr. Brene Brown, and Dr. Harriet Lerner.

Kim greatly enjoys her time with her husband, Scott, and their 4 children along with their all-important Golden Retriever, Tiller. Kim is also a church musician in Red Wing and can be found behind the sewing machine when time allows.
