Frequently Asked Questions:
The Cannon Falls Education Foundation, established in 1993, is a tax-exempt, not-for-profit organization whose mission is to provide funds to enhance the educational environment in the Cannon Falls Public Schools. The Foundation works closely with the School Board, the Superintendent, teachers and members of the community to support the District's programs and services.
What type of programs does the CFEF fund?
Every child is different...Let's help each one find their passion for learning. Everyone has different interests, skills and aptitudes. This fact is no more evident than in our children. As parents, teachers and neighbors, we need to find ways to engage kids in productive learning. This is the basis of the Cannon Falls Education Foundation mission to fund "innovative and creative experiences". The projects we fund are meant to pique the interest of our students and develop well-rounded young adults. Here are some examples of projects aimed at these goals:
Music: Steel Drums and Keyboards
Science and Technology: Lego Robots and Microscopes
Personal Achievement / Team Building: Eagle Bluff and Rock Climbing
Lifelong Skills: House Building Project and Women's Self Defense
Arts: Pottery Equipment, Louvre Exhibit and Christmas Carol performances
For the CFEF, I'm very pleased to give this answer when I'm soliciting local businesses and community members. Thanks to a dedicated, 18-24-member, 100% volunteer board, we directed 98% of our fundraising directly in support of teacher-requested projects for the students of Cannon Falls.
Since 2005, this percentage has ranged between 95-98%. Our expenses are typically for tax preparation, postage and some public relations items. Also since 2005, we've been able to fund over $220,000 in projects and increase our endowment from $200,000to over $450,000. All these successes are due to great support fromlocal businesses and community members.fund over
Each year, teachers are invited to submit applications
for projects and programs for the school district. The applications are signed by the Principal and Superintendent before they are submitted toour Program committee. The Program committee in turn evaluates therequests before submitting them to the full Foundation board for approval. To date we have provided over $750,000 in grants to the Cannon Falls Public Schools.
